| Substation EMF's in a warehouse |
|
Diane and Bill were interested in purchasing a new warehouse for their business. However, an electrical substation was located on one side of the building and a bank of mobile phone masts was located on a pole at the rear of the building. Building Wellness was therefore asked to assess the premises for magnetic field and radio frequency exposure.
Test results Magnetic field levels exceeded precautionary guidelines both in the areas around the substation and along the external wall closest to the street power lines. Radio frequency levels exceeded precautionary guidelines in the parts of the building closest to the phone masts.
Outcomes Diane and Bill were advised to position both their offices and other spaces where people would spend long periods of time in the parts of the building furthest from both the phone masts and the substation and to use the areas with the highest exposure levels for spaces (e.g. archives) where staff would spend little to no time on a daily basis. They were pleased with this outcome, as it fitted with their plans for the layout of their new work space. |
