Staff exposure to wireless internet RF's

Tony, an office manager, had been asked by one of his employees whether or not their newly installed wireless internet system was "safe", as he was concerned that exposure to high RF levels could be associated with adverse health effects. Tony therefore asked that his office space be assessed for RF exposure, first with the wireless internet turned on, then with it turned off.

Test findings

Based on Building Biology Guidelines, which consider levels which are safe for long term exposure, the RF levels throughout Tony's business space were of extreme concern when the wireless internet was turned on.However, when the system was turned off, RF levles were almost zero except when in the vicinity of a staff member's mobile phone.

Recommendations

Tony was advised to revert to a wired internet system to minimise his staff's RF exposure in the work environment. To further reduce exposure, it was recommended that use of mobile phones in the office space be limited.

Outcomes

Tony turned off the wireless internet system, for his own peace of mind and that of his employees.
