Avoid "new car smell" chemical exposure |
|
To
reduce chemical exposure in cars, buy a used vehicle rather than a new one. The
“new car smell” is due to chemicals which are being released from the fittings
in a new vehicle. When driving a new car, reduce chemical exposure by opening the windows whenever it is used
for at least the first few months, particularly if the weather is hot.

High formaldehyde levels in trailers (caravans), mobile homes |
|
An interim report released by the
U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found high levels of
formaldehyde in the indoor air of trailers (caravans) and mobile homes supplied
as emergency housing to people displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in
December 2007 and January 2008. Processed wood products used in the
construction of fittings in the trailers/homes were found to be responsible for
the observed formaldehyde levels.

Reduce condensation and mould growth |

To reduce condensation which
may lead to mould growth, ensure that the indoor environment is well
ventilated. As well as opening doors and windows, keep a little distance
between furniture and walls to enable air to circulate behind the furniture.

Ambient electromagnetic fields may affect human sperm quality |
|
According to a Microwave News report, a Californian researcher
has found that daily magnetic field exposures of 1.6mG or higher for at
least two-and-a-half hours were associated with significantly poorer semen quality.
Men who were exposed to over 1.6mG for over six hours a day were four times
more likely to have substandard sperm.
