Ian and Jill were interested in purchasing a block of land located near high voltage power lines. As they had three young children, they wanted to ensure that the magnetic field levels at the site were safe before committing to the purchase.

Test findings

The magnetic field levels at all parts of the block of land, including the points furthest from the power lines, were well within Australian Guidelines, but exceeded Building Biology Guideline figures which describe the levels considered to be safe for long term exposure.

Recommendations

Given the high magnetic field levels, Ian and Jill were adivsed to spend as little time as possible at the site.

Outcomes

As the safety of their young family was paramount, Ian and Jill decided not to proceed with the purchase of that land.
