Sam and Tracey were keen to purchase a corner block of land which was part of a sub-divided block. They were aware that there were high voltage power lines at the end of their street. As they planned to start a family soon, they wanted to ensure that the block was not exposed to high magnetic field levels from the high voltage lines.

Test findings

The magnetic field levels at the site exceeded the levels considered to be safe for long term exposure (Building Biology Guidelines). However, the source of these fields was not the high voltage lines, but the standard street distribution lines which bordered two sides of the corner block. 

As the consultant was aware of several mobile phone masts in the general vicinity of this land, RF readings were also taken. In parts of the block, the RF levels were found to exceed those considered to be safe for long term exposure (Building Biology Guidelines). The source of these readings was not determined.

Recommendations

Sam and Tracey were advised to spend as little time as possible at the site, due to it's high magnetic field and RF exposure.

Outcomes

Sam and Tracey were prepared to speak to the agent about the purchase of an althernative property.
